Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta to open the Med sailing season
The Mediterranean regatta season for large sailing yachts is beginning. From May 26 to 30, 2026, the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta will once again take place off the coast of Sardinia. Which yachts are the favourites?
Porto Cervo is about to take centre stage once again, where the sea, the wind, and impeccable style come together for their annual performance.
From May 26 to 30, 2026, the eighteenth Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta will unfold—an event that not only kicks off the Mediterranean superyacht racing season but also does so with quintessential Italian elegance.
Organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the regatta has long transcended being a mere sporting event. It has become a ritual, a place where Italian flair meets the marine element. Participants and guests can look forward to four days of competitive excitement and high-society living: racing on the water, parties and receptions onshore.
The race courses wind through the islands of the La Maddalena Archipelago. Taking to the start line will be sailing superyachts over 27 metres in length, along with multihulls starting at 15 metres—a fleet that doesn’t just impress but commands awe with its sheer scale.
A special highlight of the programme is once again the Southern Wind RendezVous and Trophy. Following last year’s success, the South African shipyard has chosen Porto Cervo as the venue for its twentieth – and therefore anniversary – gathering. Ten Southern Wind yachts have been entered, including Kalantis, featured in our latest issue, which will be making its regatta debut.
Last year, the competition featured 14 superyachts. For 2026, the lineup looks even more impressive and diverse. The entry list boasts a formidable fleet of 17 superyachts, including Cervo, Esense, Freebird, Gelliceaux, Grande Orazio, Grillo Parlante, Hevea, Inoui, Liberty, Magic Blue, Morgana, No Rush, and, of course, Sørvind By Giorgio Armani. Behind each name lie not only technical specs but also the owner’s ambitions, the crew’s expertise, and a rich story. The partnership between Giorgio Armani and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda continues to be built on shared values: the sea as a symbol of freedom and beauty, and sailing as an expression of elegance, sportsmanship, and harmony with nature.
Club Commodore Andrea Recordati notes with quiet but evident pride that the regatta has long outgrown its status as a sporting competition, becoming a true celebration of maritime culture. Judging by the organisers' enthusiasm, in 2026 this celebration will once again set the tone for the entire season.
From our side, we’ll add that the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta is one of those rare occasions where it’s hard to say what matters most: the speed, the style, or simply being present amid all that splendour. Those who find themselves in Porto Cervo on those days will be able to experience it firsthand.
