
Damen contracted for the outfitting of REV Ocean

Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSV) has signed a contract to outfit the research and expedition vessel REV Ocean. The work will include both interior and exterior elements of the ship and will take place in DSV’s covered dry dock.

What is REV Ocean?
The REV Ocean vessel, measuring 194.4 meters in length and 22 meters in width, is designed to conduct comprehensive research of the entire marine ecosystem—from coastal areas to deep-sea regions, from polar zones to tropical waters. REV Ocean is set to establish a new industry standard thanks to its cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art research laboratories.
Key features of the vessel:
- Laboratories equipped for analysing and storing samples.
- Acoustic sensors for mapping the seafloor and studying biological communities.
- A conference centre with an exhibition hall, a 35-seat auditorium featuring Dolby Atmos, and a media studio.
- Cranes, a pelagic trawling system, and a "moon pool"—a shaft for deploying underwater vehicles.

Unique Equipment
Onboard, REV Ocean will feature:- The DSV Aurelia submarine is capable of diving to depths of 2,200 metres.
- The ROV Aurora is a remotely operated vehicle with a working depth of up to 6,000 meters, providing access to 98% of the ocean.
- An Airbus ACH145 helicopter, which will support research, transportation, and resupply missions.
