Every Kuril Island is worthy of an expedition. Atlasov Island, located north of Paramushir, is renowned for its Alaid Volcano, the highest point of the archipelago (2400 meters). The volcano’s last eruption occurred in 1981. Its perfect conical shape, rising directly from the depths of the sea, captivates the eye and makes Alaid one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world. At the heart of Alaid lies Kuril Lake, the largest spawning ground for sockeye salmon in Kamchatka. Despite the harsh climate and volcanic activity, Atlasov Island attracts explorers and nature enthusiasts. Rare bird species nest on its rocky shores, and marine mammals inhabit the surrounding waters.

Shumshu Island entices visitors with its diverse wildlife. It is home to numerous bird species, and its coastline is favored by marine mammals. On Shumshu, river fishing is possible (while Atlasov offers sea fishing). The group stays overnight in a guesthouse and dines in a gazebo with a view of Alaid Volcano.

Paramushir is one of the largest and most fascinating islands in the northern group of the Kuril Islands. Its rugged beauty and rich history attract researchers, travelers, and wildlife enthusiasts. One of Paramushir’s main attractions is the Ebeko Volcano. On Paramushir, visitors can find remnants of Japanese fortifications and infrastructure, highlighting the island’s strategic importance when it was part of Japan. Guides will showcase the former Japanese airfield and military structures: pillboxes, hangars, bunkers, trenches, shells, and moats.
