Яхта была построена на немецкой верфи Lürssen под контролем специалистов Moran Yacht and Ship. Экстерьер и интерьеры яхты — результат совместной работы двух выдающихся дизайнеров Эспена Оэйно и Паулин Наннс.
Яхта имеет ледовый класс и оснащена двумя двигателями Caterpillar мощностью 2682 л.с. каждый. Максимальная скорость, на которую способна Northern Star, — 18 узлов, крейсерская — 15. На борту предусмотрено шесть кают для пассажиров.
