The 10.5-metre Tykun X, built with an aluminium hull, is the result of a bold experiment: an Italian company known for military and law-enforcement vessels turning its expertise toward the civilian market.

The project is led by MED Group, based in Cervia—a shipyard that over the past decade has delivered hundreds of high-speed aluminium boats for government agencies and armed forces. For them, reliability is not a marketing claim but a matter of survival. So when CEO Marco Galimberti decided in 2024 to enter the luxury leisure segment, he brought that same uncompromising approach with him. Military vessels are always designed for specific missions and built with a high level of customization. In that sense, the ethos of a bespoke superyacht has always been part of the yard’s DNA. With over 90% of its business still rooted in defense contracts, MED Group can afford to explore this new direction without pressure.

Aluminium was the natural choice. It is demanding to work with and requires exceptional welding expertise, but it offers a unique combination of lightness, strength, and safety. It is also easy to repair and fully recyclable—qualities that appeal to owners who value longevity and sustainability.

Traditionally, chase boats are seen as purely functional companions to a superyacht. The Tykun X challenges that notion, turning the support vessel into a statement piece in its own right. It is not intended to compete with the mothership in terms of scale or complexity—these are different categories—but it stands out with a distinct and confident identity.

Balance is the defining principle here: a careful interplay between performance and seaworthiness, comfort and flexibility in layout.

A military pedigree alone is not enough to succeed in the luxury yacht market—and today, it is no longer particularly novel. What truly sets the Tykun X apart is the infusion of Italian craftsmanship, refined design, and an instinctive understanding of luxury.

The Tykun range, which also includes 8- and 12-metre models, was developed in collaboration with renowned yacht designer and naval architect Tommaso Spadolini and strategic advisor Benedetta Iovane (also known as @theluxuryachtlady). Their involvement ensured that the Tykun X would achieve a level of refinement and timeless elegance that will endure for years to come.

Spadolini recalls recognizing the project’s potential when a client—for whom he had previously designed a 50-metre yacht—immediately chose the very first Tykun X hull as its tender. The owner became deeply involved in the process, extensively customizing the boat and adding numerous options to the standard specification. This is the atelier concept brought to life.

Out at sea, with the throttles fully open, the Tykun X reveals its true character. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 55 knots thanks to twin 400 hp Mercury Verado engines, its performance is remarkable. At the heart of this capability is a twin-step aluminium hull designed by naval architect Carlo Bertorello, drawing directly on military know-how.

The boat was tested off Monaco in challenging conditions. Despite the rough sea, handling remained effortless, and passengers experienced a level of comfort more typical of calm waters. With an optimal cruising range between 25 and 40 knots, the owner can choose a pace that balances speed and comfort without compromising stability. Even at 42 knots in choppy seas, the boat feels composed and entirely in control.

The Tykun X is not only about speed—it is designed for stylish, comfortable cruising and seamless guest transfers to the main yacht. At anchor, fold-down bulwarks expand the cockpit, transforming it into a generous leisure space. The layout is fully customizable: the first hull features two C-shaped sofas with dining tables that can be lowered to create large sunpads. A spacious sunbathing area is located forward, while a bar unit between the helm and seating can be fitted with a sink, refrigerators, or even a grill—everything needed for relaxed days on the water. The cockpit can also be fully enclosed, with removable glazing fitted to the carbon hardtop for protection against wind and spray.

Storage solutions reflect the yard’s military precision. A hydraulically operated locker beneath the aft sofa provides space for fenders, additional compartments are concealed under the forward sunshade, and a dedicated aft storage area accommodates water toys and equipment.

The boat is also suited for short stays on board. Below deck, there is a cabin with a V-berth and a fully equipped bathroom.

Marco Galimberti emphasizes that tailoring each tender to match the style of its mothership—or to bring any owner’s vision to life—is second nature to the team. To support this, a dedicated division, Tykun Atelier, was established to deliver truly bespoke creations.

MED Group’s ambitions extend even further. After making a strong impression in Monaco in 2025, the company unveiled details of its most forward-thinking concept yet: the Tykun H1. This 12-metre model features an electric propulsion system powered by high-capacity batteries, supported by a hydrogen fuel cell. It offers a range of up to 60 nautical miles. Developed in collaboration with TESYA Group—whose engineers worked on hydrogen systems for support vessels at the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona—the H1 translates cutting-edge racing technology into a practical solution for private owners, with a focus on simplicity and comfort.

The Tykun X and its hydrogen-powered sibling, the H1, are finely tuned machines for those in search of memorable experiences. They invite owners to explore coastlines, discover hidden coves, and connect with the sea in a direct and unfiltered way. Equally at home arriving at a luxury hotel or setting off at dawn for a solitary high-speed run, their versatility reflects the perfect balance envisioned by Spadolini and Galimberti.

The Tykun X is a rare example of form and function working in true harmony—resulting in something far more compelling than just another tender or chase boat.
