Custom 50m explorer from JFA has been launched
The project, launched in 2021, was developed by the French shipyard JFA Yachts in collaboration with the UK-based studio Humphreys Yacht Design, which was responsible for the naval architecture and exterior styling. This yacht marks a first for JFA: a motor yacht featuring an aluminium hull paired with a composite superstructure. This construction combination delivers weight savings, a lower centre of gravity and, as a result, improved seakeeping and performance.
Details of the propulsion system remain scarce, but it is confirmed to be hybrid. The yacht is equipped with an extensive array of solar panels and a high-capacity battery system, allowing for silent, zero-emission operation while at anchor or in port, as well as during low-speed cruising. The projected top speed is 20 knots, while at an economical speed of 12 knots the range is expected to exceed 5,000 nautical miles.
In line with the owner’s brief, the yacht features a large garage designed to house a 9.25-metre tender along with a selection of water toys. Launch and recovery are handled by three cranes: a dedicated crane for the main tender, a concealed forward crane for a RIB and jet skis, and a deck crane with outreach over the aft bathing platform.
Accommodation is provided for up to 10 guests. The owner’s suite, complete with a private lounge and study, occupies its own dedicated deck and is complemented by a jacuzzi. Interior design, conceived in a contemporary style, is being developed by the Italian studio m2 atelier.
The explorer yacht has yet to be given a name; this will be announced during the official handover to the owner, scheduled to take place in the coming months.
