The new Panerai chronograph, with its second time zone and perpetual calendar functions, epitomises the Manufacture's philosophy of high-end complications that combine intricate horological mechanics with intuitive functionality.
Panerai has made significant efforts to simplify the calendar settings. All functions, including the display of the day, date, month, and leap year cycle, are adjusted using a single winding crown, eliminating the need for additional buttons. Unlike conventional mechanisms, the P.4100 caliber features a balance supported by a bridge with two pivots, ensuring greater operational stability. According to Panerai, the perpetual calendar remains accurate for decades. The watch is equipped with a patented system that protects the date indicator from shocks.

When the winding crown is pulled out, the balance wheel and second hand stop, allowing for precise time setting down to the second. This feature is particularly useful for synchronizing the watch with an accurate time signal.

The P.4100 caliber provides uninterrupted operation for three days and includes a second time zone indicator (GMT function). The 12-hour and 24-hour indicators operate independently. A dedicated 24-hour counter at the 9 o'clock position tracks standard time, while the central GMT hand displays the time of the second time zone. The adjustment system allows for quick changes between time zones and setting local time without affecting the seconds or date display.
Visually, the Luminor Perpetual Calendar features a clear, minimalist dial with sapphire crystal, creating a sense of depth and enhancing readability. The luminous hands and hour markers coated with Super-LumiNova® X2, along with a rhodium-plated small seconds counter and enlarged date display, ensure accurate reading even in low-light conditions.

The automatic winding is powered by an asymmetrical micro-rotor made of 22-carat gold. A rotating disc indicator on the back of the caliber allows for monitoring the remaining power reserve.
