In May, the navigation season for small vessels is already in full swing on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The fleet of the Kamchatka Secrets Recreational Complex boasts two comfortable yachts, each accommodating up to six passengers.
One of the most captivating marine excursions is a cruise to Russian Bay, located in the southwestern part of Avacha Bay. Narrow, deep, and stretching almost 10 kilometres, Russian Bay is considered one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
The entrance to the bay is guarded by hundreds of Steller sea lions basking on the rocky shores of Cape Kekurny. The most eagerly awaited visitors to these waters are orcas and whales, which gracefully slice through the Pacific Ocean with their black dorsal fins. Their arrival, as they come to feast, is always a thrilling sight for tourists.

The bay’s steep cliffs, covered in Siberian dwarf pine, look like they belong on a painter’s canvas. These cliffs are home to thriving bird colonies, including puffins, ducks, cormorants, gulls, and murres. In the quieter, gentler parts of the bay, wildflowers bloom in abundance, alongside clusters of rowan, lingonberry, and rosehip bushes.
Russian Bay is also famous for its deep-sea fishing. Anglers can catch flounder, halibut, rockfish, cod, and navaga. The seabed offers treasures like sea urchins and crabs, making the experience even more rewarding.
Quiet and serene, Russian Bay is known for its calm and welcoming waters, even when the ocean rages and icy northern winds blow. During World War II, this natural haven served as a key staging point for convoys of transport ships travelling from Canada and the United States to Vladivostok.
Whether you’re drawn by the stunning scenery, the rich marine wildlife, or the chance to fish in some of the world’s most pristine waters, Russian Bay offers an unforgettable adventure on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
