In Hong Kong, a project known as Airport City is underway adjacent to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which includes the development of the largest marina in the region, along with supporting facilities. This will allow for the utilization of the extensive water resources in the area surrounding the airport.
The marina, featuring 600 docking spaces, will be part of a multifunctional complex that encompasses tourism, business, and retail infrastructure. Notably, it will include the Jet Fresh Market, where, due to its proximity to the airport, visitors will be able to purchase fresh produce from around the globe. Additionally, there will be exhibition spaces for art showcases, both indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and other amenities. Guests will not only enjoy the benefits of a seaside resort but will also have a unique opportunity for plane spotting—watching the takeoff and landing manoeuvres of aircraft from a close distance.
The completion of the largest marina in Hong Kong is expected between 2026 and 2031, with key elements of the project including the fresh produce market and other facilities.
The complex will feature autonomous taxis and shuttles capable of transporting up to 8,000 people per hour.
