This boat is the perfect companion for any captain, whether you're looking to take the helm for personal enjoyment or for business where comfort is paramount for both the pilot and the riders.
The first wakeboat of 2025 can be considered an intermediate model within the M line, but in terms of performance, it certainly holds its own alongside its siblings, the M220 and M242. In developing the M230, the engineers and designers at Malibu Boats incorporated all the best features from the M and LSV models of 2023–2024, taking a significant step forward by completely reimagining the control station.
In short, it has become even more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The primary display, measuring 15.8 inches diagonally, features a nearly bezel-less design that makes it look like a giant smartphone has been placed on the dashboard. This sleek screen is nothing short of impressive, offering crisp visuals, rich colors, and faster multi-touch responsiveness than ever before. Malibu takes particular pride in its anti-glare glass, which resists fogging and freezing, allowing raindrops to simply bead up and roll off. Additionally, the display is resilient against salty sea air and boasts an IP67 waterproof rating.
On the left side of the display, you'll find a speedometer that also indicates torque. The center section shows ballast distribution, while the right displays the operation of the Power Wedge III system. The wedge can be adjusted with just a single touch. The operating system now saves profiles for both pilots and riders, allowing you to assign skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. This personalization is incredibly useful for families or wakeboarding schools.
In addition to full control over Malibu's Surf Gate Fusion and Power Wedge III systems, the mOS operating system includes customizable presets for water sports. You can easily switch between wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and waterskiing modes.
The HD images from the front and rear cameras are displayed at the center of the screen, ensuring you always have a clear view of your rider without needing to turn around.
At the end of your session, simply press the "Go Home" button to release the ballast, deactivate the cruise control, and reset the Power Wedge III and Surf Gate systems to their original positions.
The additional vertical screen, measuring 8 inches, displays maps and serves as a control hub for sound, lighting, and fine-tuning the boat's controls.
The lighting is designed similarly to that of the flagship M242 model. You can customize individual settings for the bow, stern, cockpit, storage systems, and choose from three lighting options for the arch, underwater lights, and docking lights. Simply select the light bulb icon, choose the area, adjust the brightness, and most importantly, set the color from the RGB palette—it's almost like playing on a tablet. The system allows you to assign buttons for radio stations, connect via Bluetooth to play your favorite songs from your smartphone playlist, and even synchronize the lighting with the music. Watching the sunset while enjoying this setup guarantees an out-of-this-world experience, especially since the audio system of the M230 has been upgraded. It now features the latest Wet Sounds Rev 12 Tower speakers with multi-synchronized RGB lighting.
The design of the steering wheel has also seen significant advancements. What was once a sleek sports steering wheel has transformed into a high-tech marvel with sharp edges, wide spokes, and ergonomic indentations for comfortable hand placement. If it were placed on a wakeboarding simulator controller, it would undoubtedly be a hot commodity among gamers.
To the right of the steering wheel, there’s a docking station for wireless phone charging, complete with a sturdy holder. This setup allows you to have three screens in view while you’re on the move. Some may find this arrangement appealing, while others might find it distracting. To accommodate different preferences, the left display features its own Android browser, where you can access your most essential apps. Next to the charging station on the armrest, there’s an alternative control panel with buttons and a rotating dial.
Various thoughtful details have been incorporated to ensure that operating the boat is a pleasure, allowing the pilot to enjoy the ride without envying the carefree fun of friends in the cockpit or the tricks of the rider. There’s a cup holder conveniently located near the main display, a small glove compartment underneath, and a stylish, ergonomic, rotating seat—it's best described as a throne—equipped with electric adjustments and heating, which pilots will appreciate during the start or end of navigation in our climate. Starting in 2025, the pilot's seat on the M242 and M230 will feature a fiberglass panel at the back, with options for selecting a unique gelcoat color.
All the clever space organization features tested in the LSV and M242 lines are on full display. The central section of the rear sofa is a Max Pivot transforming seat. In just seconds, it can be converted into a wide sun lounger, extended into the center of the cockpit, or transformed into a picnic table. The left sofa is equipped with an adjustable-height armrest called Raise-&-Laze, allowing for ultimate relaxation.
Behind the rear sofa, there’s a deep EZ Stash Board Locker. Its lid is divided into three sections, each supported by gas struts. The "wings" open outwards towards the sides, while the central section unfolds towards the swim platform. There’s ample space inside for boards, life vests, and wet gear. On the transom, flanking the passage to the cockpit, are two Max-Relax seats. If you want to sunbathe, simply recline the backs into the cockpit, creating two elevated lounge chairs facing the bow.
The bow area has been noticeably widened compared to the 7-meter M232 model from 2017. The bulwarks are deep, the seat vinyl features diamond stitching, and there are plenty of cup holders. Most importantly, between the side loungers, there are special grooves in front of the windshield where you can secure the backrest of an additional seat.
You can adjust its height by simply turning the dial. In addition to speakers and the PTM Clamp Force 3.0 board clamps—now twice the size of previous models and featuring an improved rubber coating for better grip and care of your boards—the towboat is equipped with either a G5 or the new G10+ tower, both featuring convenient electric adjustments. Optionally, a powerful overhead light with an RGB controller can be attached to the tower, along with Tower Misters that spray the cockpit with a fine mist of water.
This towboat incorporates all the cutting-edge wake technologies from Malibu. The M230 is outfitted with six hard ballast tanks. The hard ballast system is managed by the Malibu command center, providing a consistently powerful and customizable wake without the need to shift passengers or gear. All new Malibu models now come with an advanced ballast flushing system known as AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species). Simply connect fresh water to the transom inlet, press a button, and the AIS automatically flushes every part of the hard ballast system.
The boat is equipped with the Power Wedge III, a water plow featuring seven adjustable angles. This allows you to create the perfect wave length and height for your needs. Another innovative technology is Surf Gate Fusion. The gates are designed specifically for the M line hull, enabling you to form a right or left wave in just two seconds without additional adjustments, passenger shifts, or ballast transfers. The Stern Turn steering assist simplifies turns, reducing the time needed to retrieve a fallen rider by a third.
Standard setup includes the Monsoon M6DI engine, delivering 430 horsepower. This engine is known for its quiet operation and eco-friendliness, but you can also opt for the most powerful model in the lineup, the 607-horsepower LT4.
Whether you're conquering the open sea, enjoying calm waters in river bays, challenging rough waves, or experiencing the exhilarating feeling of wake surfing, this 7-meter towboat is up to the task.
