Перед стартом сезона 2012–2013 отборочной серии 34-го Кубка Америки в Новой Зеландии состоялась премьера новейшего 72-футового катамарана. Презентация стала событием национального масштаба: в ней принял участие даже премьер-министр страны Джон Кей. Модель AC72, оснащенная 40-метровым карбоновым парусом-крылом, будет использоваться лучшими экипажами мира в регатах за самый престижный трофей парусного спорта. Первый построенный катамаран нового поколения принадлежит Emirates Team New Zealand, спонсором знаменитой команды является авиакомпания Emirates.
