Tankoa Sportiva 55: Whisper of the seas
The premiere of Loewe at the Monaco Yacht Show effectively began before a single visitor had even set foot on her deck. Even before the show opened, audio masters Loewe hosted an exclusive presentation of their new limited-edition headphones on board. The exquisite sound systems sparkled with diamonds, and among the select guest list, football genius Kylian Mbappé mingled with Swedish photo model, television host, actress, and Playboy star Victoria Silvstedt. With this event, Loewe—the brand that owns the yacht—showcased the entertainment potential of this charter vessel. And it is truly impressive.
Imagine a stylish nightclub by the sea that can actually move from place to place. And no one will kick you out at the crack of chilly dawn—no, after the party, you wake up in a cosy cabin with a sea view and begin your new day exactly as you please. Perhaps with a light breakfast, or maybe a massage by the pool on the swim platform. Or perhaps you will paddle or swim out to greet the rising sun.
The exterior of the Tankoa Sportiva 55 was entrusted to maestro Luca Dini. He has achieved the seemingly impossible: packing a 60-metre vessel into a sleek 55-metre yacht with a gross tonnage of under 500 GT. Tankoa Loewe is remarkable in her architecture. Open decks account for nearly half of her total space. Both fore and aft, there is an extraordinary amount of unobstructed area. And while the forward section is largely occupied by a powerful crane for launching tenders, the stern is entirely dedicated to beachside relaxation.
The beach club here is not merely a row of sun loungers by the water. It is literally a temple to the sea, complete with a genuine spa area, an infinity pool, and a vast panoramic window in the style of Captain Nemo's Nautilus, extending below the waterline to offer a glimpse into the underwater world without the need for scuba gear. The beach deck is so expansive that it is almost difficult to perceive it as part of the vessel. While swimming or lounging by the pool, you gaze up at the towering bulk of the yacht standing slightly apart, as if it were something entirely separate—as if you are not even on board. It is an extraordinary sensation, almost impossible to experience on any other boat.
Unsurprisingly, the pulse of Loewe's parties beats squarely aft. Picture this: a pool that can simply vanish. Hydraulics raise the floor, and where moments ago water rippled and bubbles churned, a vast dancefloor magically appears. There is even room for Mbappé to show off a few of his signature football tricks. Directly above the dancefloor, behind the fascia bearing the yacht's name, sits the DJ booth with all the necessary connectivity interfaces, space for the console, and a short dash to the bar—just enough time to grab a cocktail between sets.
Large sliding doors with a perfectly flush threshold lead into the main saloon. On either side of the entrance are storage compartments. The saloon is furnished with free-standing pieces, allowing for a flexible layout. All glazing facing the open deck is configured as sliding doors rather than fixed windows. This allows the saloon to be transformed, if desired, into one vast open-air terrace. The sliding panels follow the complex contours of the superstructure, and they are completely threshold-free—one of the truly remarkable engineering features on board. Forward in the saloon is a dining area for ten guests.
One deck above, on the bridge deck, lies the skylounge—a more tranquil space for quiet relaxation or movie-watching on the large television (naturally, a Loewe). Here too, the space can be opened up, seamlessly connecting the saloon with the deck.
On the sundeck, you feel as though you are on top of the world, thanks to the "infinite" transparent pool reminiscent of those crowning the rooftops of certain luxury skyscraper hotels. The bar is equipped with a full teppanyaki station. Imagine: the chef, working al fresco, juggling knives and spatulas while meat and seafood sizzle appetisingly, filling the sea air with irresistible aromas. All around, only the horizon and picturesque vistas, as if lifted from a marine painter's canvas.
The master cabin is located forward on the main deck and has its entrance on the same level as the main saloon. A lift also serves this deck. Before the cabin entrance lies a spacious guest bathroom, followed by walk-in wardrobes and storage systems that separate the cabin from the main thoroughfare.
Formally, the cabin occupies the full beam of the hull, though it feels more compact than in some yachts of around 55 metres. This is a direct consequence of the generous exterior space forward. Inside, the layout remains open, with convenient circulation around the bed and sitting area. The master cabin's standout feature is its private forward exterior terrace, accessed via large sliding doors. The terrace can be completely isolated from the rest of the vessel, while the crew retains a separate service route. It features its own jacuzzi, a spot for breakfast or coffee, and is a delightful retreat for couples or for those seeking solitude.
The guest cabins are located on the lower deck. There are five in total, and each is a VIP suite—no charter guest will feel short-changed. All cabins are equipped with generous wardrobes and additional built-in storage systems. The bathrooms share a consistent style: comfortable countertops, shower enclosures, and thoughtful functionality throughout. Pocket sliding doors are used across the deck, operating very quietly thanks to modern seals and brush systems that minimise noise levels.
A special mention goes to the cabin aft to port. It has an unusual geometry dictated by the layout. The cabin seems to wrap around the main staircase, creating a curved form rare for yachts of this size—as if you are not on a yacht at all, but in a hotel.
The interior design of Loewe could be called an ode to neutrality—a palette of creams, greys, and wood tones punctuated only by occasional vibrant accents—were it not for the ceilings. They are hammered from polished metal with a textured finish, resembling nothing so much as rippling water. You feel as though you have submerged and are gazing up at the surface from below. The effect is particularly striking when the space is flooded with sunlight. In the morning light of Monaco's harbour, the ceiling gleams with azure, like a piece of the sea trapped within the saloon. And in the evening, by candlelight, it darkens to the mirror-like quality of a lake at dusk. The space quite literally lives and breathes in harmony with nature and the weather.
The sleek, flowing lines and the word 'Sportiva' in the model name should not mislead you—Loewe/i> is not built for sprints but for serious voyages. Across the Atlantic, for instance. Twin Caterpillar C32 diesel engines, each producing 1,193 hp, deliver a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 16.5 knots. With a fuel capacity of 65,000 litres and water capacity of 20,000 litres, she can cross an ocean with barely a backward glance (range is 3,800 nautical miles at 12 knots).
The Tankoa Loewe is not merely a yacht—it is a mood cast in aluminium. She is for those who value luxury not in the form of gilded taps and toilets but in the ability to transform space at will and the absence of limitations.
